Tornike Rijvadze meets the Ambassador of Great Britain and Commander of HMS ‘DEFENDER’

Tornike Rijvadze, the Chairman of Ajara AR Government met with the Ambassador of Great Britain H.E. Mark Clayton and the Commander of Her Majesty’s Ship ‘DEFENDER’ Mr. Vince Owen.

Tornike Rijvadze underlined importance and thanked the guests for UK’s steadfast support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as its European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations. The Chairman emphasized the close friendship and business relationships not only on central but regional level as well, especially in fields of culture and education.

The sides talked about further deepening of historical ties in which Batumi, as a port city, has an important role.

The HMS DEFENDER modern type air defense fighter of the Navy of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland arrived in Batumi on June 26. The purpose of the visit is to demonstrate the close cooperation between the United Kingdom and Georgia in the field of defense and security.
