The concluding event of the Georgian Tourism Industry Alliance was held in Batumi. Tornike Rijvadze, the Chairman of Ajara AR Government, and Kelly Degnan, the Ambassador of the United States of America attended the annual report. Tornike Rijvadze thanked the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Tourism Industry Alliance, and representatives of the tourism sector for their support.

‘You know how important the tourism industry is for our region, for this city. Despite the pandemic, throughout the 2 years all relevant organizations and the private sector were particularly prepared to receive tourists. We will be able to overcome the negative effect through joint, collective efforts and we will return to the level we had before the pandemic very quickly’- said the Chairman.

The Georgian Tourism Industry Alliance was established on April 25, 2020. The Alliance brings together 29 member organizations operating in the tourism industry. The Alliance aims to promote the sustainable development of tourism in Georgia.

The Alliance is already actively involved and working with USAID on a new tourism bill. The tourism law needs to be updated. It is important that it reflects the current trends in tourism development and responds to the today’s challenges.

The founding and member organizations of the Alliance, Acting Mayor of Batumi Archil Chikovani, USAID Economic Security and Economic Governance Program Officers attended the event.
