Zurab Pataradze attends Shuakhevi HPP Completion Ceremony

Zurab Pataradze, Chairman of Ajara AR Government together with George Kvirikashvili, the Primie Minister of Georgia and Kakha Kaladze, Minister of Energy of Georgia attended the opening ceremony of Shuakhevi HPP. The company representatives and other government officials also attended the ceremony.

The Prime Minister of Georgia George Kvirikashvili talked about the importance of the project and noted that government aims at replacing imported energy with the local resource.

Kakha Kaladze thanked the Prime Minister of Georgia, staff of the Ministry of Energy, investor company TATA Group and said that everything is done for Georgia to develop its own energy and no longer depend on the neighboring countries.

Construction of Shuakhevi HHP started in autumn 2013. Within the project, two dams were constructed with appropriate reservoirs and damages. Derivation is carried out through tunnels. The total length of the "Shuakhevi HPP" tunnel is 37 kilometers, which is twice longer than tunnels built up to hydropower plants in Georgia. Investment cost of the project exceeds 420 million US dollars. Total capacity of HPPs is 187 MW. 730 Georgian citizens were employed within the project.

The Shuakhevi HPP project played an important role in the development of energy sector and young Georgian engineers. 90% of the company's employees were young Georgian engineers, and the students of the Technical University have been working on the construction, most of which are already employed by the company.
