Forest Sustainable Management for Rural Development

Meeting was held within the project ‘Forest Sustainable Management for Rural Development.’ Project is being implemented by Caucasus Environmental NGO Network CENN, in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture and by financial support of Austrian Development Agency.

Tornike Rijvadze, the Chairman of Ajara AR Government talked about the importance of the project and noted: ‘systematic and sustainable management of forest is very important to Ajara, particularly for the municipalities. Forest development is a key priority for the country and I am sure in case of the project’s successful implementation, we will get a step forward in terms of better use of forest resources.’

Memorandum of cooperation has been also signed today between the Ministry of Agriculture and CENN that envisages bilateral cooperation in forestry as an important component of rural development.

The project aims to create a diversified environment for diversification of local income sources and reduce ecological risks to improve forest management, sustainable energy solutions in rural areas, cuts in natural disasters, increase education, awareness raising, women employment opportunities and effective inter-agency interventions by facilitating coordination.

Minister of Agriculture of Ajara Tite Aroshidze and representatives of the Supreme Council, Governmental Agencies and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry also attended the meeting.
