Memorandum of Cooperation

Memorandum of Cooperation has been signed between the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of Autonomous Republic of Ajara, Represented by its Minister Ms. Maia Khajishvili and the United Nations Children’s Fund in Georgia (UNICEF), represented by its representative Dr. Ghassan Khalil, on 5 march, 2020.

The subject of the memorandum was guided by the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. The parties agreed to promote and protect the children’s rights by ensuring their increased access and participaton in equitable, inclusive and quality preschool education in Georgia, in Ajara.

In the framework of the Memorandum of Cooperation the parties agreed:

  • Collaborate to promote and protect children's rights at the level of municipalities, local communities, academia, and professionals working with children;
  • Collaborate on inclusive preschool education, introduce innovative approaches, especially to support education and quality improvement of vulnerable children;
  • Develop joint projects and annual work plans for the protection of children's rights;
  • Implement joint projects in the field of children's rights in different fields in the future.

‘One of the important documents was signed today. UNICEF in Georgia will support the development of various Ministry projects. Preschool programs will be selected and piloted in the kindergartens of Batumi and Khulo. There will be both financial and intellectual support. Significant educational programs will be set up so that the Ministry will provide methodological support to preschools’ - the Minister, Maia Khajishvili noted.

Deputy Mayor of Batumi Lela Surmanidze and the Deputies of Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of Autonomous Republic of Ajara attended the meeting.
